Full time parents for 4 weeks

We've had Harper home for 4 weeks, and Nate has been on paternity leave (so great!) so we've been figuring out how to care for a baby 24/7.  Thankfully Harper is healthy and gaining weight. She's now had her 2 month vaccines, and we've had very few visitors, but, we're starting to be more comfortable with her around other people.  So much of our experience becoming parents has been so out of the ordinary and we're happy that things are approaching normal.  She's now in the normal range of birth weights (6 pounds! 19 inches!) though she's still on the small side but all signs point to her being a healthy baby who STILL hasn't reached her due date!

But in our four weeks of full time parenting, we have learned lots about our bundle of joy.

  • she's a grunter, always always always she's making some sort of noise (and that's partly because the poor thing has non-stop gas)
  • she's squirmy, in the hospital the nurses called her "la gusanita" the little worm
  • she has an impressively strong neck and will pop up and look us in the eye while being held.
  • she looks and feels like a regular baby, so regular that we even have a hard time realizing that she's the same baby that spent a month in the hospital and had tubes and ventilators and was hooked up to the machines. She's a completely different person to us.
  • She loves the bath! And we've realized that it is hard to bathe a tiny, slippery little babe.
  • she's so cuddly and lovey, I can't believe how much we love her and we've only known her 2 months.

  3. That's so wonderful. There's nothing like a newborn baby. They are a tiny piece of heaven aren't they?
